The first Shubb Guitar Capo was created in the year 1980 and at this time guitarists from around the world realized the usefulness of using a capo. The original Shubb Capo has a unique design that is often called ingenious by the people who have used this device. The patented locking action of this device provides both speed and accuracy while playing the guitar. The original Shubb capo can be placed on the desired fret and secured by simply flipping a lever. Since the lever has a locking mechanism that ensures that the device stays in place, the capo doesn’t slip or fall while playing the guitar. Unlocking the capo is just as easy and requires the flip of a lever.
This capo is considered to be an excellent choice for both amateur and professional guitarists since it doesn’t create tuning problems. In addition, the soft and resilient rubber placed inside the capo acts like a finger which ensures that the strings are not bent while being used.

Although the Original Shubb capo was useful and easy to use, in the year 1998 this company created another Capo known as the Shubb Deluxe Capo which has made the lives of beginners and professional guitarists much easier. The Shubb deluxe capo is made of stainless steel hence is durable and doesn’t wear easily.
The restyled lever is easier to handle while placing on the guitar and removing. The geometry of this new and improved Capo is more uniform which makes the closing action easier. In addition, the roller reduces wear and also increases smoothness while placing and removing the capo.

The lightweight capos are meant for people who want both quality and a light weight capo. These capos come in 4 colors plus the traditional color of silver aluminum. The L 1 capo is used for steel string guitars while the L 2 capo is used for classic guitars. The L 3 capo is used for 12 string guitars and the L 4 capo is used for fret boards that have a radius of 7.25 inches. The L 5 capo is used for banjos, mandolins and bouzoukis while the L 9 capo is used for ukulele. Currently the lightweight capos are not available with rollers.

There are two varieties of Partial Shubb Capos. The two models of partial capos are C7B and C8B. These capos were introduced in the year 1995. As of now both these capos are available only in un-plated brass.
Concerns about Shubb Capos
- Rubber Sleeves on Capos – Since the rubber sleeves of the capos tend to wear after a while; it is possible to get replacements from the company. Both retail shops and online shopping websites carry these replacement rubber sleeves.
Bend in Capo Matching Fret board – The bend in capo will match the radius of your fret board provided you purchase a compatible capo. For instance, if you have an acoustic guitar then you should opt for one of the Shubb capos designed for acoustic guitars. In addition, these capos are known to be gentle on guitars and not bend the strings. It should be noted that if you have a vintage Fender guitar with a 7.25 radius then you may want to opt for one of the model 4 capos. However; if you have an electric or acoustic steel string guitar then you may want to opt for one of the model 1 or model 3 capos.
