Ricky Claffey trained in the art of lutherie under Master Luthiers, Bill Kelday, and Paul Hyland, at Anniesland College in Scotland.

Following that, he concentrated on developing his craft and unique approach to guitar building, as well as forming opinions on what makes a superior instrument.

As a luthier, he valued simple clean lines, classic abalone and wood combinations, and high gloss finishes. His work was influenced by classic design, with a modern twist, based on four fundamental concepts – playability, sound, aesthetics, and structural integrity.

Ricky relocated to Perth, Western Australia in 2019.

He stopped taking custom orders soon after this time period.

Certain models of his were specifically popular including his models with African blackwood back and sides.

Certain works of his are included below in order to preserve the great work he has done, in visual form.
